If you arrived here via a web search, check out my video explaining the features of the Cuisinart DBM-8 Burr Grinder. If you came to this page from my Youtube channel, thank you. Here are more details.

Overview: I bought this coffee grinder after my older blade grinder failed due to overuse. The price for the DBM-8 is very reasonable. Typically the grinder can be found on Amazon for under $50 (as of 2015).

The DBM-8 is a burr mill. It accomplishes coffee grinding coffee between two abrasive surfaces. The user sets the distance between the two surfaces. Grind selection ranges from coarse (French press) to Fine (Espresso). This grinder creates ground coffee that is uniform in size. The coffee grounds are not heated up when they are ground. Blade grinders excessively heat up coffee grinds when finely ground coffee is desired. Burr mills do not have this issue.

This burr mill is powerful and rugged enough to grind a large batch of coffee beans at one time. My previous blade grinder failed because of a large batch being processed. A plastic component that guides the blades in my previous grinder melted and caused the blade to vibrate excessively. This will not happen with a burr mill.

How it works:

  1. Place the desired amount of coffee beans into the hopper.
  2. Select a grind setting (coarse to fine)
  3. Select the desired number of cups
    1. The cup setting is the amount of ground coffee needed for the displayed cup setting.
    2. Use 8 cups for single use (this ensures all of the coffee beans for a single serving are processed)
  4. Press Start
  5. Transfer ground Coffee into your coffee maker.

Maintenance:

  • After each use, the collection bin should be swept clean with the brush tool.
    • Hand washing the collection bin is preferred over placing it in the dishwasher.
  • The Ground Coffee outlet should be brushed clean monthly
  • Inspect the grinding plates annually.
    • To get to the grinding plates, rotate the hopper anti-clockwise until it comes free from the base.
